New cation deficient scheelites (Sr,Ce)nWO4 (n<1): Structural and optical properties

New cation deficient tetragonal scheelites, (Sr,Ce)nWO4 (n < 1) were synthesized using the Ethylene-DiamineTetraacetic Acid-citrate method. The chemical compositions and homogeneity of powders determined by Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy. Whatever cerium amount, scheelites exhibit (3 + 2)D incommensurate modulations, which evolve with structural cations vacancies amount. optical absorption onset varies from 400 nm to 450 increase Ce bandgap strontium tungstates (3.18–3.42eV) is much lower than one pure scheelite SrWO4 (4.51eV) near Ce2W3O12 (3.14 eV).
